Development Support for Visual Artists
Due to the ongoing impact of Covid-19 on the livelihoods of artists, we would like to offer informal, practical advice and support to help visual artists navigate this difficult period.
Whether you have an established artistic practice, are a self-taught artist, a recent arts graduate, or part of an small artist-led organisation, we are available to:
- Read and comment on a funding application, or artistic opportunity
- Review and comment on a project budget for funding applications
- Talk through an initial creative/project idea
- Offer informal advice and feedback on how to prepare a portfolio and/or Artist CV
- Share feedback on the development of a personal/project website or social media presence
We are open to providing other forms of support, which meet artists’ needs while they are navigating the impact of Covid-19. So, if you think there’s something else we could offer, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We are very happy to connect via phone, video call platform (Whereby), or email.
Please know that we are offering informal advice based on our skills and experience. We will always be transparent if we feel we do not have the skills and expertise to assist with specific requests. Where possible, we will also signpost you to other resources, and available support.
Who we can support
We can offer advice and support to visual artists from anywhere in the UK. Given our location in North Kent, we have reserved half of the spaces for artists based in North Kent and the wider Kent region.
Register your interest
If you think this type of support would be beneficial to you, please register your interest by completing our short application form.
Once you have registered your interest, one of the team will be in touch within 10 working days.
A large print version of this information and the application form is available here.
In addition to the application form online, you can also register your interest by answering the application questions via email. Send your response, using text, audio, or video, to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you would like to request a call back, respond via another format not listed above, or have any other access requirements, please contact us at email@example.com.
How will support be allocated?
Spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis according to availability.
We will reply to all forms submitted, and where possible, find alternative time slots if preferred dates or times are not available.
If demand exceeds availability, we will review extending the programme in February.
We’re an artist group/collective, can we still access this support?
Yes! If you are a collective, group or artist-led organisation, please just let us know how many people would like to be involved in follow up correspondence with us.
How much time will you spend with me/us?
To ensure we can reach as many artists as possible, each member of staff will be available for approx. 1.5 hours per person/group. We anticipate this will roughly equate to 2 x 45 min sessions over a 3 month period.
Sessions will be available from mid November to the end of February 2021.
Do I need to offer anything in return?
No! At the end of the sessions, we kindly invite feedback and completion of an Equal Opportunities form. This information will be used to inform future artist development support programmes, but it is not mandatory, and all details are anonymous, and remain confidential.
