The Sea View Has Me Again is a conversational sound work related to Patrick Wright’s book of the same name, which was originally broadcast on Sheppey FM in May 2021 as part of Estuary 2021.
Patrick’s book The Sea View Has Me Again (2020) tells the story of Uwe Johnson, one of Germany’s greatest and most-influential post-war writers, and how he came to live and work in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey in the 1970’s.
The writer and artist-filmmaker, Shona Illingworth, have been sharing their investigations since 2017 and recorded this conversation on the Isle of Sheppey in May 2021. For this work, it has been brought together with recorded readings from Johnson’s descriptions of the ‘moral utopia’ he found on Sheppey, made with local arts organisation Big Fish Arts.
