Ebbsfleet Citizen Archive is a community-led project capturing and preserving the varied stories and histories of the people and places of Ebbsfleet, Greenhithe, Swanscombe, and Northfleet, inviting local people to with artists, historians and fellow residents, to explore the area’s unique historic and contemporary identity through objects, sounds, videos and photographs, collected by and from residents past, present and future.
At the core of the project, a team of volunteer Citizen Archivists working closely with artists, historians, and archivists to explore the people, stories and histories of the area as it goes through a significant moment of change, and learn the practical and creative skills needed to create an archive for the whole community.
A series of intro session at Gravesham Libraries, Dartford Museum and Libraries, and Kent Archives in Maidstone will introduce Citizen Archivists to the key skills and processes of archiving. Volunteers will join skills workshops with artists sharing different creative approaches to documenting the area and its stories. Simon Martin will lead a session on photography, Charlotte Ginsborg on film, and Hannah Kemp-Welch on sound.
Ebbsfleet Citizen Archive is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England, and supported by Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, Gravesham Libraries, Dartford Museum and Libraries, and Kent Archives.
